Youry Baryssevitch

Minsk, Belarus

The performance illustrates the performer’s book “Body and Text” where he gives his own opinion on the avant-garde and neo-avant-garde movements in Europe and Belarus. Accompanied by the minimalist poem from a tape-recorder, the performer dressed in white is sitting at the wall, drinking beer from the bottle and eating some pages from his book. Then he stands up and starts moving around throwing the pages out or handing them out to the spectators. A flaccid penis is drawn on his white jeans. Then goes back to the wall and does a “hara-kiri”, cutting his shirt and taking different small objects out from it. Having painted the cut red, the he lies on his back. Covers the face with his book, convulsing. The head together with the author has gone into the text.
